Alex Bunbury going to Guyana

Alex Bunbury to visit Guyana

An international team of sports and business professionals led by Guyanese-Canadian Hall-Of-Fame footballer, Alex Bunbury, is scheduled to visit Guyana on January 10, 2016. Over a 2-week period, the Plaisance-born coach Bunbury will host a series of free football clinics for girls and boys aged 12-14. US-based coaches, Mr. Stan Harmon and Mr. Sam Bunbury(Alex’s brother), and a Guyanese-based coach (tba) will assist Alex in managing these clinics, the first of which will be held in the Plaisance/Buxton school districts, thus affording the Bunbury brothers an opportunity to give back to their community of birth.
Additionally, Mr. Bunbury’s business team will hold discussions with stakeholders from both the public and private sectors, pursuant to his bold vision to build and manage the Alex Bunbury Sports & Academics Academies (ABSAA), a series of eco-friendly, sports, academics and resort facilities in the Caribbean region, starting with Guyana.
A private, high-level meeting with the honorable President David Granger and select government ministers is currently being finalized, at which the ABSAA-Guyana vision and architectural model will be presented along with specific details on financing, human resource management, operations, and the projected socio-economic impact of the US multi-million dollar project on Guyanese youth and targeted communities.
The group is scheduled to tour potential project sites in Guyana, assess existing sports, recreational and academic facilities, and compile primary research data to augment and complete the ABSAA-Guyana feasibility study and comprehensive business plan.
During the course of his visit, Mr. Bunbury looks forward to engaging with the local media and general public via press conferences, town-hall meetings and autograph-signing sessions.
